The Pouakai (Haast’s eagle)

This week we have been writing about extinct native animals to New Zealand
Pouakai (Haast’s eagle)

The Haast’s eagle is the largest eagle to ever live.

The Moāri name for the haast eagle is Pouakai.

The eagles wings were bigger than the a Smart Fortwo the wingspan is 3000 mm the cars length is 2,695 mm.

You would be able to find them in forests and near a lot of bush places. It lived on the South Island of New Zealand, there were no large predators there, until the māori people came.

The bill for the bird was up to 130 mm long.

The male eagle was smaller than

the female eagle.

It preyed on large flightless birds like the moa which is 15x its weight the haast eagle weighs 17.8 kgs, and the moa weighed 230 kgs.

The māori hunted māori the moa to extinction due to the Haast’s eagles diet which quickly went extinct.

They also went extinct because of the burning of the south island about 500-600 years ago.

Lion Report

This week we have been learning about lions and how to write a report. The report was cut up into strips and we had to put it back together. My group did not get it correct because we didn't know where the sentences should go.
I enjoyed learning .
I found it challenging to stick the right sentences in the right place.
My digital learning shows I can take a photo of my learning and post it on my blog.
Next time I would change where the sentences were put.
I now know our success criteria for structuring a report.
*To use a title
*To write a classification
*To write about their habitat
* To write a dynamic fact

Homophones

Today we were learning about their, there and they're. These are all homophones.
I found it easy to write all the words.
I found it tricky to figure out which word to put in.
Next time I will try to not crossout.
My digatal learning shows I know what homophones are.

The Fake Soccer Tournament

This week for Writing we have been learning to use a hook. We had to use juicy verbs and different sentence starters.
I found it easy to use different sentence starters.
I found it challenging to use juicy verbs.
Next time I would add more juicy verbs to paint a picture in the reader's mind.
OWW!  I landed on my shoulder after someone tripped me up and I heard someone to give me CPR although I wasn’t dead. GOAL! We screamed as Logan scored an outstanding goal from halfway off the left post which is hard to hit and a couple minutes later Cole did the exact same thing but a bit closer.
But then when we started again at the middle someone rushed him as soon as he kicked it and they smashed his ankle he said “it felt like having a twisted ankle for a long time”

Everyone was astonished by the score
When we won 7 to 3. And then we went inside because the bell rang.

It felt like winning the World Cup

This Is Just To Say By Me And William Carlos Williams

Yes his name is William Carlos Williams
and we were using his poem idea and adding our own word and
we had to write about it when we were doing something naughty
when we were young.
The tricky part was sorting the text boxes on the poster.
The easy part was choosing the background.

museum visit

This is the waka that I made at school. People from the museum taught us about Horouta which is the waka that Paoa and Kiwa used to travel to Aotearoa. The people from the museum were so nice when they came to our school, and they taught us all about Paoa and Kiwa and how they travelled to Aotearoa

When Paoa and Kiwa
sailed from Hawaiki (we don't know where Hawaiki is. Do you?) to Aotearoa they were using a
hourua waka, which is a double hulled waka. They brought kumara with them and this is how kumara first came to New Zealand. They were happily sailing along when they came to a sudden stop because they crashed into a sandbar at Ohiwa and the waka broke. Paoa had to go cut down a special tree to repair it. When Kiwa was in Ohiwa she made some minor repairs and sailed past the East Cape and on to Gisborne/Turanganui-a-kiwa which is where Paoa was sailing to, sitting on the tree down Waipaoa River. They meet out at Wainui Beach where they fixed the waka.

I am from

In Writing we are learning to describe. We had to use specific nouns, adjectives, juicy verbs and similes.
I found in hard to use more verbs
maybe next time miss mckayla

I am from
a wooden house with huge lawns,
a long garden filled with weeds and small flowers and pebbles
a little steel dog that carries a sign saying welcome right in front of our thick glass door and mesh door.

I am from
a cold kitchen with warm smells.
My favourite food that comes from our kitchen are spaghetti and meatballs and macaroni and golden cheese as gold with bacon and onion.

I am from
a family that always goes to and loves Speedway, a family that always argues
a family that listens to Pink Floyd, Adam Lambert & Bruce Springsteen.

I am from
a family that makes me empty the dishwasher, bring in the recycling bin,
put my clothes in my room,
feed my animals.

I am from
a family that tells me to “Get off the PS4 or it will be 24 hours off it tomorrow!” “Empty the dishwasher now”

I am from, Mum and Dad.
I am from a family that always catches up on line because my brother lives in a different country and my sister lives in a different city.

Summer Holidays.

Remember
Christmas Eve and how it was white in Gisborne and how none of my friends believed me? They still don’t believe me when I saw my Dad shoved cardboard down the chimney and ashes as white as snow flew out with the grey thick smoke and they soared into my golden sparkling grape juice.

Remember
as our family started to arrive on Christmas day and Santa had definitely been.
Lots of items for Christmas,
my uncle taught me to do a full belly flop spin which is very hard for me to nail but I eventually did pin down.

Remember
I got some really cool things like one of those hover drones where you put your hand under it and its sensors tell it to shoot up in the air.

And I got a drift trike.

That was summer.

We were Firing fire-works in the sky bang ,crack, whizz, whirl in the sky
